ADVERSE REACTIONS Anticholinergics, including glycopyrrolate injection, can produce certain effects, most of which are extensions of their pharmacologic actions.
Adverse reactions may include xerostomia (dry mouth);
urinary hesitancy and retention;
blurred vision and photophobia due to mydriasis (dilation of the pupil);
cycloplegia;
increased ocular tension;
tachycardia;
palpitation;
decreased sweating;
loss of taste;
WARNINGS This drug should be used with great caution, if at all, in patients with glaucoma.
Exposure to excessive amounts of benzyl alcohol has been associated with toxicity (hypotension, metabolic acidosis), particularly in neonates, and an increased incidence of kernicterus, particularly in small preterm infants.
There have been rare reports of deaths, primarily in preterm infants, associated with exposure to excessive amounts of benzyl alcohol.
The amount of benzyl alcohol from medications is usually considered negligible compared to that received in flush solutions containing benzyl alcohol.
Administration of high dosages of medications containing this preservative must take into account the total amount of benzyl alcohol administered.
Like all medications, Glycopyrrolate can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes this medication will experience them. Many side effects are dose-dependent and may improve as your body adjusts to the medication. Others may require dose adjustment or medical attention.
